How to Join
Joining is easy and is open to any women affiliated with the university. Everyone from seasoned veterans to figure skaters to those who haven't ever skated and even those who have never seen ice in their lives are encouraged to give ice hockey a try. There's nothing else like it. To join the team or just try it out, contact Club President.
Our practice schedule starting in the Spring of 2008 is Mondays 8:00pm - 9:30 and Thursdays 9:50pm - 11:20pm. This year the club only has one team; however, in the past the club has fielded two teams: Illini #1 and Illini #2. Illini #1 plays against more experienced, competitive teams, while Illini #2 creates a great atmosphere for women learning the game.
The Right Equipment
Helmets can be rented at the Ice Arena with a school ID. The team owns some gear and sticks that are available to those who wish to try out the sport for the first time. To step out onto the ice, one is required to wear a helmet and hockey skates, and pay a $12 insurance fee. In order to join the team and play in games, a full suite of equipment is necessary.
Insurance and Dues
All players must be insured by USA Hockey and the University of Illinois. This it a total of $50 (including the $12 mentioned above). Dues are $150/semester if the individual works the Club's concession stand at two Illini Football home games. Otherwise, dues are $200 per semester.
